Train crash: I'd be asking some serious questions were I president – Mahama
Former President John Mahama has weighed into the recent train crash incident with some questions.
Mr Abel Dzidotor, the driver accused of causing the accident on the Tema-Mpakadan rail, by abandoning his truck across the rail line, was sentenced to a six-month jail term on Friday, 19 April 2024.
He admitted he was guilty of three out of four charges.
Firstly, he was charged with careless driving.
Secondly, he was accused of stopping his vehicle at an authorised place.
He was fined for both.
Thirdly, he was accused of causing damage to state property and sentenced to a six-month jail term.
Lastly, he was accused of not having a driver’s licence but he told the court the document was in the damaged truck and has been asked to produce it or face more trouble with the law.
Dzidzotor abandoned the truck on the rail track after it got stuck while returning from a delivery assignment.
However, Mr Mahama, on his Facebook page, wrote: “How can you conduct a test run on a new railway line without a track inspection?" Again, he asked: "How long had the vehicle been on the track before the test run?" before adding: "If I were President, I’ll be asking some serious questions".
