Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) that succeed are led by leaders who are clear in their vision, creative, confident and competent, according to Dr Christian Jahn.

Dr Jahn is Head of Programme Support to the Ghana Private and Financial Sector, supported by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit or German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ), and financed by the Ministry for Economic Cooperation Development, and the European Union (EU).

He spoke to Class News’ Prince Benjamin (PB) on the sidelines of the Accra edition of the 2024 Regional Network Conference for Enterprise Development & Employment Promotion (RNCEDEP), organised by GIZ, held at the University of Professional Studies-Accra (UPSA) Auditorium, on the theme: ‘Sustainable Solution for Enterprise Development & Employment Promotion: The Role of the Union of Stakeholders’.

Dr Jahn encouraged individuals interested in entrepreneurship to closely look at areas in which they could innovate, instead of imitating, adding that creativity made it easier for a business to grow.

He said, also, GIZ was happy to support green businesses that controlled environmental pollution while sustaining productivity.

“If you want to be a successful entrepreneur you have to be convinced about what you’re doing. And at the moment, I think, there’s still a lot of work that could be done in the country. And if you’re convinced about what you’re doing; you have a vision, and want to work for that, then most of the time these MSMEs succeed. Yes, it’s always good if you have some innovative ideas – if you stand out, it’s easier to scale so definitely that is something we’re also looking out for,” Dr Jahn said.

He revealed, “In another part of our programme we are also specially supporting companies and enterprises that have an impact on the environment [for good] – green businesses because that is something that affects the country and the whole society and that is also important where we need more innovative solutions [on] how we can mitigate climate risks, and adapt to it as well, and at the same time having a viable business. And that is possible. We’re looking for such companies where they can get special support to scale their products and services.”
