Finance Minister lauds job creation potential of oil palm sector during visit to Benso Oil Palm Plantation
Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has highlighted the vast potential of Ghana’s oil palm industry to generate thousands of sustainable jobs and improve rural livelihoods.
During a working visit to the Benso Oil Palm Plantation (BOPP) at Adum Abanso in the Western Region, Dr. Forson commended the management, smallholder farmers, and workers of the company for their dedication and significant contribution to Ghana’s agricultural and industrial growth.
He described BOPP as a model enterprise that demonstrates how strategic investments in economic crops such as oil palm can drive large-scale employment and inclusive economic transformation.
“Benso Oil Palm Plantation is a perfect example of how strategic investment in oil palm can create thousands of jobs and transform lives,” Dr. Forson stated.
“The dedication and professionalism I witnessed here give me great confidence that renewed investment in this sector is worth every effort.”
Dr. Forson disclosed that the government is in the final stages of developing a comprehensive Oil Palm Plantation Policy aimed at boosting production, strengthening value chains, and creating new jobs across the country.
He also applauded BOPP’s inclusive business model, which integrates smallholder farmers into its operations, emphasising that it aligns seamlessly with the government’s broader vision of positioning agriculture as the cornerstone of Ghana’s next phase of economic growth and job creation.
