Mr Keli Gadzekpo, the Chair of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Board, has resigned, effective 9 April 2024, citing personal reasons in his letter to President Akufo-Addo.

Mr Gadzekpo expressed his well wishes for the state power distributor and the government in their efforts to provide stable electricity amid the country's energy sector crisis.

Mr Gadzekpo was appointed to the board in 2017 by then-Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko.

His resignation coincides with a worsening power crisis, which has led the minority caucus in parliament and the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission to demand the publication of a load-shedding timetable.

Recently, Energy Minister Mathew Opoku Prempeh said those demanding a load-shedding timetable are people who wish evil for Ghana.

He has asked those clamouring for it to bring one.

“Ask those who want it to bring it if there is," the Manhyia South MP told journalists on Monday, 25 March 2024, at the inauguration of the governing New Patriotic Party's campaign team in the Ashanti Region.

"I haven’t seen any timetable," he noted, adding: "The Electricity Company of Ghana says that there’s no timetable coming," so "why do you want to bring a timetable?"

"For what purpose? Why would somebody wake up and wish for evil and wish bad for the country?" he wondered.

Dr Opoku Prempeh said: "When it is not planned, you can’t tell the person.”
