MDF forum pushes for mineral revenues to benefit mining communities

A recent forum on mineral development has called for a renewed focus on channelling mineral revenues directly into mining-affected communities, traditional authorities, and local government structures to drive sustainable development.
The event, which brought together key stakeholders in the mining sector, sought to promote visionary leadership committed to ensuring that funds from mineral wealth are used to uplift local communities through tangible and lasting projects.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Bisiw-Kotey, the Administrator of the Mineral Development Fund(MDF), acknowledged the lack of meaningful progress over the past eight years in this regard but expressed her commitment to adopting President Mahama’s vision to address the challenges facing mining communities.
“The Mineral Development Fund (MDF) can be a powerful catalyst for transformation through sustainable projects that will benefit generations to come,” she stated.
Dr. Bisiw-Kotey also strongly condemned the ongoing destruction caused by illegal mining activities, which she said continue to ravage the environment, pollute vital water bodies, and destroy farmlands.
“My office will work closely with relevant institutions to combat illegal mining across the country,” she affirmed, pledging a firm stance on protecting the environment and safeguarding livelihoods.
The forum concluded with a call for stronger collaboration between government agencies, traditional leaders, and community stakeholders to ensure the effective and transparent use of mineral revenues for development.
