John Dramani Mahama has cut sod for the construction of the New Float Glass Manufacturing Company at Shama in the Western Region, describing the project as a major boost to Ghana’s industrial transformation drive.

The sod-cutting ceremony, organised by KEDA (Ghana) Ceramics Company Limited, also saw the President inaugurate the company’s fifth phase Tile Production Line and the opening of a modern sanitary ware factory.

When completed, the float glass manufacturing facility is expected to produce 1,400 tonnes of glass per day, making it one of the largest on the African continent.

The project is projected to significantly reduce imports, generate an estimated $100 million in annual export revenue, strengthen local supply chains, and create sustainable employment opportunities.

It is also expected to contribute substantially to national revenue through taxes.

Addressing management and staff, President Mahama urged them to take ownership of the facility and ensure its long-term success.

He stressed that Ghana’s industrialisation agenda would thrive when the government provides a stable environment, investors commit capital, and host communities offer strong support.

The President reaffirmed his confidence in locally manufactured goods, noting that Made-in-Ghana products can compete globally when backed by skill, innovation and uncompromising quality.
