Vice President Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has underscored the government’s renewed focus on industrialisation as the engine of Ghana’s economic transformation, describing the sector as central to the country’s “next phase of growth.”

She delivered the message on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama at the 14th Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) Awards Night held on Saturday.

Addressing captains of industry, the Vice President commended award recipients for the innovation, resilience, and leadership they continue to demonstrate in Ghana’s business environment.

“The innovation we celebrate tonight reflects the spirit that must anchor Ghana’s next phase of growth,” she said.

Prof Opoku-Agyemang reiterated that the Mahama administration is implementing targeted strategies to reinvigorate the industrial sector, improve productivity, sharpen competitiveness, and create sustainable jobs.

“We are unlocking the full potential of Ghana’s industrial sector,” she stated.

“Policies such as the 24-Hour Economy are designed to encourage industries to operate in productive shifts, boost output and expand employment opportunities.”

She also pointed to the Feed Ghana Programme as a crucial driver of both agricultural and industrial development.

“Feed Ghana is enhancing agricultural output to strengthen food security and supply raw materials for our local processing industries,” she noted.

The Vice President encouraged businesses to leverage these policy interventions as the government works to decentralise industrial activity and promote value addition across all regions.

“We are creating an environment that opens new opportunities and expands capacity for sustainable growth,” she added.

Conceding the operational challenges many businesses face, Prof Opoku-Agyemang assured industry leaders of the government’s commitment to easing constraints and supporting a more competitive private sector.

“Easing the burdens facing our industries remains central to our broader strategy.

Government stands ready to work hand-in-hand with you to build a resilient and competitive industrial base,” she emphasised.

She congratulated all award winners and nominees, acknowledging their critical role in national development.

“Every business making quiet but steady progress is helping to build a nation anchored on industrial strength.

Your work matters, and Ghana is counting on you,” she said.
