The visit was to understudy Ghana’s successes in ICT and the digital space as well as learn from established projects and policies and also understand the legal framework governing the digital and infrastructural economy of Ghana.
Mr Joe Anokye, the Director-General of the NCA, who welcomed the delegation, gave an overview of the mandate of the NCA.
He also highlighted projects that have been undertaken by the regulator over the past few years such as the installation of the Broadcast Monitoring Systems (BMS), the Type Approval Laboratories, the establishment of the Cybersecurity Division and the creation of the Authority’s Computer Emergency Response Team (NCA-CERT), Common Platform and the Network Monitoring System (NMS).
He further stated that the National Communications Authority has worked to create an environment that promotes fair and sustainable competition, which encourages innovation and protects stakeholder interests while also facilitating universal access to high-quality communications services for everyone in Ghana.
Briefing the delegation on the country's digitalisation initiatives, Mr Anokye stated that the government of Ghana is playing a critical role in the establishment of a robust framework to promote digitisation as Ghana embarks on a SIM Registration exercise.
He reiterated that the SIM Registration exercise, which is to be rolled out in October, is important to the country in implementing a credible National Registry of all citizen which will further reduce crime-related issues.
