According to actor Bob Smith Junior aka Diaboloman, the one-week observation ceremony of his friend, actor Prince Yawson, aka Waakye is scheduled for Friday, August 26, 2022.

The ceremony is expected to take place at the Accra Tourism Information Centre. The facility is located near the Flagstaff House.

The veteran actor in an interview with Accra-based TV XYZ informed, “The family has other funerals to take care of which is why they chose 26th August. The location is Accra Tourism Information Centre opposite Afrikiko.” 

Waakye’s demise happened and came to public notice on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 much to the sadness of fellow actors and fans who cherish nostalgic memories of comic characters he played on their screens.

According to Maame Dokono, born Grace Omaboe, during the emergency, Waakye was first taken to Ridge Hospital but couldn’t be admitted because of the lack of hospital beds. 

He was subsequently taken to the 37 Military Hospital where the challenge was same. 

The alternative to a bed at 37 Military Hospital was a stretcher but, “When they brought equipment to take care of him, he had [already] given up the ghost,” she recalls.

The actor died at the 37 Military Hospital somewhere between the hours of 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm on 2 August.
