Economic empowerment: Ignore stereotypes and embrace professional cooking — MoTCCA boss to youth, especially men
The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has encouraged young people, particularly men, to look beyond cultural stereotypes and embrace careers in the culinary arts.
She made the call at the 47th EKGS Culinary Institute graduation ceremony, where she described the culinary arts as a vital driver of Ghana’s economic growth, job creation and tourism development.
Madam Gomashie commended EKGS for empowering thousands of graduates through skills training and entrepreneurship.
She reaffirmed the government’s commitment, under the Black Star Experience initiative, to positioning Ghana as a leading cultural and culinary tourism destination.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mrs Efua Otuwa Goode Obeng Kyei highlighted EKGS’s 27-year legacy of training over 8,000 students, noting that the culinary arts remain a critical form of economic capital and a pathway to entrepreneurship and national development.

The event brought together families, industry stakeholders and policymakers, with graduates showcasing culinary, pastry, floral and other creative works, reflecting the steady growth of Ghana’s creative economy.
