Ghana missed a big chance with ‘One Corner’” – Patapaa disappointment over lack of national support
Ghanaian hiplife artist Patapaa has voiced strong disappointment over what he describes as inadequate national support during the peak of his global hit “One Corner.”
Speaking as a guest on a UTV cooking show, the energetic performer said Ghana lost a major opportunity to project its music industry across Africa because many failed to appreciate the international potential of his song.
According to Patapaa, while “One Corner” made waves far beyond Ghana’s borders, the music industry and stakeholders did not rally behind him to push the momentum further.
He alleged that Nigerian artistes have since adopted elements of the song’s rhythm and fused them into their modern highlife productions — a trend he believes could have been Ghana’s defining moment.
Patapaa also criticised the current pattern of songs going viral on TikTok but fading quickly, saying this reflects a growing disregard for originality in the music space.
He argued that while digital trends create quick fame, they do not build lasting musical influence.
The Swedru-based artist further revealed that he proudly wore the Ghanaian flag during international performances to market his country on global platforms.
However, he said his gesture was often misunderstood, with some assuming he was being overly dramatic rather than patriotic.
Patapaa maintains that had his creativity and efforts been properly recognised and supported at home, Ghana would be enjoying a stronger musical presence on the continent today.
