Guru reveals he deferred university education to pursue music career
Ghanaian rapper Guru has shared a personal story about putting his education on hold in order to fully pursue his entry into the entertainment industry.
Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM, the musician disclosed that he was in Level 200 at the university when he decided to defer his course after gaining momentum in his music career.
According to him, the decision was difficult because his mother had always wished for him to complete his degree.
“My mum always wanted this (getting my degree) for me. I was in Level 200, but I deferred when I entered showbiz,” he said.
Guru revealed that although he chose music at the time, he has never forgotten his mother’s desire to see him graduate.
He noted that returning to school to complete his degree remains a personal goal.
The rapper’s comments come as part of a broader discussion on balancing higher education with a demanding career in the creative arts, especially for young talents who find success early.
His revelation has sparked conversations online, with many praising him for his transparency and others encouraging entertainers to pursue education alongside their craft whenever possible.
