Sista Afia gained recognition following the release of her single 'Jeje'

Ghanaian singer Sista Afia has said she feels the Ghana music industry has blacklisted her.

She made this claim in an interview on Monday, 8 August 2022, on Daybreak Hitz on Accra-based Hitz FM.

Questioned if she feels that way because of her awards drought, she responded, “Well, not just that. There are a lot of things that’s making me feel that type of way.”

“Let me give you an example. Somebody would call me for a show and be like, Afia I want you for a show and I’ll give you an amount – small amount. The same person will go and call a different female artist and give her double the amount and then push me aside. It’s happened to me countless times. And I don’t know what I’ve done to any of them,” she bemoaned.

The ‘Weather’ hitmaker went on to say, “I don’t have any relationship with anybody who has called me for those types of shows. There are a lot of things I could say. A whole of things I could say but do I want to be blacklisted some more? Nah. I’ll just keep my mouth shut and just do what I have to do.”

In another breath, Sista Afia disclosed, “I wanted to stop music before [I released my song] ‘Asuoden’. I had that thought. Even now I’m still thinking, should I do it or not. But the reason I always push forward is because of these people – the fans, the ones that love my music, I feel like I don’t want to let them down just because I feel some type of way about the industry.”

Born Francisca Gawugah, the artiste is out with a new piece titled ‘Makwe (I Want to See)’.
