‘I got love for my superstar Kofi Mole’: Sarkodie clarifies alleged ‘Makoma’ music video snub
Rapper Sarkodie has reacted to allegations he snubbed rapper Kofi Mole and his team concerning recording a music video for Makoma.
Makoma was released in September 2020, a collaboration between Kofi Mole, Sarkodie and Bosom P-Yung.
In a recent post on X, Kofi Mole, responding to accusations he did not promote Makoma effectively and did not shoot a music video for it, said several attempts to get Sarkodie for the video shoot failed.
Today, Tuesday, January 28, 2025, Hitz FM interviewed popular video director Yaw Skyface who also alleged Sarkodie disappointed the crew for a Makoma video shoot on two dates.
Quoting an X post reflecting the above, Sarkodie broke his silence, citing “miscommunication somewhere,” and asserting his innocence.
He clarified he would never intentionally disregard “my superstar Kofi Mole”.
In Akan (Twi), Sarkodie appealed for his name to be given a rest.
“Yaa monma me din nda kakra, me sr3 mo… Have no idea about this and if it actually happened there was miscommunication somewhere. Only responding to this cos I got love for my superstar Kofi Mole. I don’t play games… I’m in or not,” Sarkodie wrote.
Given Sarkodie’s influence and the size of his fanbase, Sark Nation, a verse and appearance from him is highly valued in the music industry. The difference his collaboration makes has, also, been demonstrated over the years in the careers of stars like King Promise, Kurl Songx, and Krymi & Mr Drew, among others. Some music fans, therefore, argue if Makoma, which saw Sarkodie in rare singing form, had received a music video, it would have helped raise the song to a hit status.
Pushing back, others noted Sarkodie was in the habit of not releasing music videos for his own songs and so they were not surprised about the alleged incident.
Furthermore, some fans admonished Kofi Mole he had no excuse not to promote the song or shoot a video for it, citing recently singer Cina Soul had released visuals for her Too Bad collaboration with Sarkodie, DJ Breezy, and O’Kenneth even though she was the only person seen in the video.
Meanwhile, on his name being given a rest, Sarkodie has been the subject of raging controversy since the start of 2025.
Firstly, he was accused of claiming Ghana was returning to harsh times with the return of President Mahama when he posted, "Back to gari soakings like we never left," a day after Mahama's inauguration after reelection. Gari is a cheap foodstuff which has come to symbolise financial strain and austerity.
Again, a video was circulated showing an image of the rap heavyweight apologising for missing a Ghana Music Awards UK event. The rumour spread alongside the video was that he could not fly to the UK because a diplomatic passport allegedly given to him by former President Nana Akufo-Addo's administration had been revoked.
