'I think AI is demonic' – Ice Cube threatens to sue anyone who uses his voice to make AI-generated music

Ice Cube has made it known that he’s not one of the artists to mess with when it comes to artificial intelligence (AI).
As previously reported by AfroTech, there has been a massive boom of people using AI to create fake music.
One of the most viral tracks to come out of the trend is “Heart On My Sleeve,” which replicated Drake’s and The Weeknd’s voices.
In an interview with the “Full Send” podcast, Ice Cube didn’t hold back on his disapproval of AI.
When the hosts asked what the rap legend and businessman would do if his voice were used, he declared that he would take whoever was responsible to court.
“I think AI is demonic,” Ice Cube said. “I think AI is going to get a backlash from real, organic people.”
He added, “And Imma sue the motherf-cker who make it and the platform that plays it. It’s like a sample. Somebody can’t take your original voice and manipulate it without having to pay.”
Many fellow artists have weighed in on their perspectives revolving around whether AI should have a space in music.
During the 2023 Milken Institute Global Conference, Snoop Dogg shared that he has questions about what it all means for the near future and if it should be one of his future investments.
Timbaland is one of the music veterans that has ventured into AI, as previously shared by AfroTech. The legendary producer plans to commercialize AI software through his company, Light Energy Labs, which he co-founded in 2022 with software programmer and producer Zayd “Creatrgod” Portillo. He believes that he can create a “solution” for artists.
“It’s going to really be a new way of creating and a new way of generating money with less costs,” Timbaland told Forbes in an interview. “I’m already here. This is what I’m doing. I’m going to lead the way.”
