“I was in love, someone took my chick, and I felt helpless” — Kwabena Kwabena reveals inspiration behind ‘Mene Woa’
Ghanaian highlife musician Kwabena Kwabena has opened up about the deep personal heartbreak that inspired one of his emotional songs, Mene Woa, describing it as a track born purely out of real-life pain and vulnerability.
Speaking in an interview on Daybreak Hitz, the singer shared that the song remains one of the most personal pieces he has ever written and composed, as it came directly from a difficult moment in his love life.
According to him, 'Mene Woa' was created during a period when he felt powerless and heartbroken after losing someone he truly loved.
“The one I wrote or composed with pure emotion and out of true life emotion that will be 'Mene Woa' because around that time I was helpless.
I was in love, and somebody was taking my chick. He succeeded; he took my chick away from me.
Those times I wasn’t this new Kwabena Kwabena, but even if I was Kwabena Kwabena,” he revealed.
The award-winning musician explained that the experience shaped the emotional depth of the song, allowing listeners to connect strongly with its lyrics and melody.
Over the years, 'Mene Woa' has become a fan favourite, with many praising its sincerity and heartfelt message.
Kwabena Kwabena’s revelation sheds new light on why the song resonates so deeply — it wasn’t just music, but a reflection of a painful chapter in his life.
