The head of Lynx Entertainment Richie Mensah, also known as Richie has said it takes about two to three to break an artist into the music industry.

He was speaking today Thursday, 11 August 2022, at the maiden edition of The Showbiz Conference organized by Boomplay and 3Entertainment.

The theme for the event that attracted music executives, artists, artist managers, media personalities and others was ‘The Digital Era and Showbiz’.

Speaking on the impatience of aspiring musicians, panel member Richie revealed how long it takes to get an artist noticed and accepted by music fans saying, “It takes about two to three years, that’s when you’re very successful, to break an artist into the industry.”

“So maybe someone is coming to Lynx and they think that Richie signed me in January so by April, I’m playing 02 [arena],” he drew laughter from the audience.

“Most people don’t understand how long it takes for the DSP (Digital Service Provider) to recognise you. They spoke about playlisting earlier here. You’re a new artist. You won’t get playlisted for at least one and a half years. They will put you on ‘New Music Daily’ once, if you’re lucky. That one is [even] with strong connections.”

Sharing the stage with the award-winning music producer were Live Entertainment and Media Executive Rudy Kwakye, Elizabeth Ntiamoah-Quarshie, the General Manager Boomplay Ghana, and Victor Bannerman-Chedid, a digital transformation expert.

Richie also advised artists to be mindful of the two sides of showbiz. First, “hone your craft so that you can make sure the show part [of showbiz] is perfect. Whether you’re a singer of rapper, hone that; your performance ability, how you interact with people, your interview skills. Hone that.”

“The other thirty percent is to understand the business part enough to even know who to select [as a business partner], this is very important,” he prompted.
