Kofi Kinaata allows fans to witness live studio session for 'fire' Black Stars chant song
Highlife singer Kofi Kinaata has thrilled fans after sharing a live studio session capturing the creative process behind a new Black Stars chant song.
In a Facebook Live video, Kinaata, wearing a yellow Black Stars jersey, was seen in the studio working with producers Willisbeatz, OT, TwoBar, and Abochie. He was also captured trying his hand at playing the dondo drum.
In the Willisbeatz-produced track - to be mixed and mastered by Abochie - the singer uses humour and wordplay to caution opposing teams, describing the Black Stars as “charged up” and ready to demolish them.
The song also expressed support for the national team, assuring continuous encouragement through cheering and prayer. "Fire, fire, fire," is one of the catchy hooks in it, seemingly drawing from a charistmatic style of praying.
Kinaata further referenced past Ghana football greats such as Robert Mensah, Asamoah Gyan, and Sulley Muntari, expressing confidence that the current team will uphold their legacy as their "sons".
Although a Highlife song, the production draws inspiration from northern Ghanaian musical styles rather than the southern Ga “jama” sound commonly used for sports chants.
The Black Stars are preparing for the FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, where they are in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.
Tonight, June 2, 2026, they are scheduled to play a friendly match against Wales, coached by Portuguese manager Carlos Queiroz.
