MC Portfolio has revealed he had a relationship with Reggae/Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale before getting to know the latter’s longstanding rival Stonebwoy.

He spoke to Nana Romeo on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo.

The entertainment pundit and master of ceremonies explained he was originally introduced to Shatta Wale by radio personality and DJ Andy Dosty.

“God has made me in such a way that if you want to come to Kumasi, you’d have to come through me,” he declared.

“When Shatta Wale was about to do the Ahodwo Las Vegas song (2020) during the Kumerican era, I was the PR for the Kumerican revolution. Andy Dosty introduced me to him, saying, ‘If you’re doing something in the Ashanti Region, go through this guy’. That’s how I built a rapport with him, and I suggested one or two names to him. That’s where I introduced [King] Paluta to him. Paluta was not known nationwide at the time but he was a star in the Ashanti Region. Shatta Wale said he liked the Kumerican movement and wanted to support us.”

According to Portfolio, he mentioned Amerado, too, “who at the time had more mileage than anyone else” in the region.

“But Shatta Wale already had a relationship with YPee,” he added.

“I mentioned Kofi Jamar and others to him. So that is where we built the rapport and that is how he confessed that he liked King Paluta’s energy and all that.”

The hypeman bemoaned being “often called a hypocrite and disloyal” because he had not taken any side in the rivalry between Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy.

“At the time I dedicated myself to helping Stonebwoy win the Artiste of the Year award, I had a relationship with Shatta Wale. I am a person who doesn’t inherit enemies – that’s my philosophy in life – and I don’t backbite and foment trouble. I play my role in everyone’s life and then go back to my lane,” he explained.

He underlined before he advocated for Stonebwoy’s Artiste of the Year victory, he did not have a “personal relationship” with the Afro-Dancehall originator.

“But because of what he had done in 2024, I refunded monies back to clients from three weeks earlier – even some of the clients are still disappointed today – relocated, fly to Accra to argue for his win,” Portfolio said, emphasising his genuine regard for Stonebwoy.

He revealed he had previously advocated for KiDi and Black Sherif’s Artiste of the Year victories but “these were not penetrating” the market beyond Kumasi. Wanting to capture attention in the capital city of Accra, with a relocation plan in mind, he said he ventured arguing for Stonebwoy’s win, and saw success.

Following Stonebwoy lifting the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) 2024 Artiste of the Year (AoTY) trophy with great support from Portfolio, Shatta Wale surprised the latter with a GHS5,000 cash gift on live TV. The incident brought Portfolio under heavy criticism for apparently being disloyal to Stonebwoy, and even though it came to light he gave the money to the band and production crew at the TV station, it did not calm critics.

Portfolio commented on the current state of his relationship with Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy.

“At this point in time, only they can define what relationship they have with me, I can’t,” he said.
