MP-elect Kwame A-Plus: Gomoa Central is my primary concern not entertainment industry
Entertainer, entrepreneur, and Member of Parliament-elect Kwame Asare Obeng, alias A-Plus, has clarified, contrary to popular opinion, he is not going to parliament to advocate the advancement of the entertainment industry.
Speaking to Graphic Showbiz, the musician and entertainment pundit who came to fame by musical socio-political commentary underlined the electorate of Gomoa Central who have freshly given him the mandate to present them in the upcoming 9th Parliament were his primary concern.
The choleric doubled down by stating he, also, received no campaign help from the entertainment industry when he was seeking the seat, his point being he consequently owed the industry no activism.
“I don’t want anyone to think that Kwame A-Plus is going to Parliament to fight for the interest of the entertainment industry. That is not my business there, my interest is to work and bring satisfaction to the people of Gomoa Central who voted massively for me because of the confidence they have in me,” A-Plus said.
“No creative industry person or group put me in Parliament.
“When I was contesting, there wasn’t any word of support from the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), or the Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG) or any creative group to rally support for me. It was just a few of my friends in the industry who solidly stood by me throughout.
“So nobody should tell me I’m representing the creative industry. I’m going to Parliament to serve the interest of the people of Gomoa Central.”
Ghana went to the polls on December 7, 2024, where on his debut, A-Plus achieved a landslide victory with 14,277 votes, unseating the New Patriotic Party (NPP) incumbent MP, Naana Eyiah Quansah, by a margin of 2,640 votes.
According to A-Plus, the last six years, “I went back [to school] to have a Bachelor’s degree, a Master’s and an LLB.
"I armed myself with some requisite knowledge and I’m glad of the outcome today.”
