My husband and I were tired; we're divorced - Nana Ama McBrown reveals
Popular Ghanaian actress and television presenter Nana Ama McBrown has disclosed that she is no longer married.
McBrown and her husband, Maxwell Mensah, were married for 12 years, sharing a daughter called Maxine.
According to her, the divorce was amicable and without bitterness, adding that she is now in a far better place.
She described her relationship with her estranged husband, as well as her in-laws, as cordial.
“I’m the happiest right now. I have gone through divorce. Yes, I am divorced. I am, and I am not ashamed to say but I did so beautifully. Me and my husband are cool. We spoke yesterday, we speak today, we speak tomorrow, we meet, I go to our house [to see] my in laws and everything,” she told TV3.
“Look, I am a happy woman. We are the best of friends. We didn’t go through it like the bitter ones. I was tired, he was tired. We sat down, we said let’s talk about it. Let’s move on.”
She noted her ex-husband was a good man, and she had feelings for him but she was exhausted.
“He is a correct guy. I still feel him but I got tired of the marriage,” the TV personality said.
She revealed that her marriage to Maxwell Mensah was contracted under customary law, meaning its dissolution required only the involvement of both families.
Future
Without going into details about the challenges that led to the divorce, McBrown noted that marriage is not easy, especially for public figures.
She added that she will never marry again but remains open to having more children.
“I have [been] married for 12 years. When you see celebrities that have married for 12 years, applaud them,” she said.
“I will not marry again. I can give birth again but I won’t marry again,” she added, noting her in-laws were against the divorce.
McBrown did not disclose when the divorce took place, but indicated she had endured unbelievable hardships in the last two years.
“It's been personal issues: Marriage, health and work. These three things I believe in, fell apart,” she explained. “A lot of them fell apart.”
She asserted, however, that she had recovered and was actually happy now.
“I'm happy because I'm over them," she said, adding that she was returning to her Onua TV show as “a happy woman” and being “the strongest”.
Rumours of McBrown's marital challenges and a possible separation have been circulating since 2024, prior to her confirmation.
She expressed great appreciation to her ex-husband for their daughter, adding a cryptic message.
“If we don't meet again [as a couple], the precious thing you've given me is my daughter, and you can have the world, and I can have her, and I can live forever,” McBrown remarked, adding her ex-husband was still managing some of her properties.
