Rap not paying – Kwame Yogot

Entertainment
Kwame Yogot came to public attention after the release of the Kuami Eugene-assisted song 'Biibi Besi'

Ghanaian Hip Life artiste Kwame Yogot has said rap music is not paying.

He complained, “We’ve rapped for a long time but it has not given us anything. We blend it with singing and other things.”

The ‘Biibi Besi’ hitmaker continued, “We’ll, however, still rap but we’ll also make it [a] commercial [sound]. We’ll mix in a lot of things.”

The latest from the rapper is an afrobeat and love-themed song titled ‘Nobody’ featuring singer King Maaga. It is unusual in his repertoire which is replete with so called street music and themes.

He disclosed the reason behind this new direction as, “They [fans] requested for it. They said I’ve given them enough street songs. The song I planned to release this year was not even a love song but this is what the fans like. They said they want something like this and so I dropped it for them. The thing is if there are no fans, I won’t also be here. That said, there’s a hard one that will follow this. This is the only one they [the fans] are getting for this year so they should enjoy it.”

According to the Yogot, the requests for a love song was done via social media private chats and phones calls.

The rapper disclosed these in an interview on Accra-based 3FM.
