Shea Butter advocate Hamamat Montia to champion Ghana’s tourism drive
Ghana’s push to promote its cultural heritage and local products has received a boost as Hamamat Montia, founder of the Shea Butter Museum, is set to be named Tourism Ambassador for Shea Butter by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts.
The announcement was made by the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey, popularly known as Abeiku Santana, during an appearance on Joy FM’s Showbiz A–Z on February 7, 2026.
According to him, the Ministry is increasingly turning to influential cultural figures to help market Ghana’s unique attractions and products to the global community.
He explained that Hamamat’s work in promoting shea butter and northern Ghanaian heritage makes her an ideal representative for the initiative.
He also disclosed that musician Wiyaala is being considered for a similar engagement as part of efforts to use creative arts personalities to project Ghana’s image internationally.
Abeiku Santana praised Tourism Minister Dzifa Gomashie for supporting the strategy and revealed that promotional content featuring these ambassadors is currently in production.
While highlighting the benefits of working with well-known personalities, he admitted that partnering with top influencers can be costly and sometimes difficult due to scheduling and availability.
However, he noted that committed individuals who are passionate about Ghana make the process smoother.
Hamamat Montia has gained significant recognition for her advocacy of natural shea butter products and her museum, which showcases the history and economic value of the commodity.
Her profile recently rose further after her museum was featured during popular streamer IShowSpeed’s visit to Ghana as part of his African tour.
Officials believe her appointment will help spotlight Ghana’s shea butter industry while strengthening the country’s broader tourism campaign.
