We don't show respect to the dead anymore -Aba Seal worries
Renowned gospel musician Stella Aba Seal has expressed her deep desire to honour the late Yaw Sapong, describing him as a serious and talented musician who made a significant impact on Ghana’s music industry.
highlighting the importance of honouring musicians while they are alive and preserving their legacy after they pass.
She made the remarks during a live broadcast on No.1 FM’s Live Worship Show.
“To be honest, in this part of the world—let me focus on Ghana—we don’t always show respect to those who have passed,” Stella said.
“People retire, others take their place, and life moves on.
I’ve taken a break for some time, and now I feel it’s important to honour those who have gone ahead of me.
”She specifically paid tribute to the late Yaw Sapong, describing him as a “serious musician” who trained at the National Academy of Music and had an exceptional talent for scoring and directing music.
“Yaw was a very good musician. When he was alive, I was close to him; we would talk often.
If you were in the studio with him, he knew exactly what he was doing, and he directed everyone well,” Stella said.
Stella also reflected on the broader culture in the Ghanaian music industry, noting that while people often celebrate stars while they are active, the contributions of musicians are frequently forgotten after they pass away.
“We need to appreciate these talents while they are alive.
Honouring them is not just about respect; it’s about acknowledging the hard work, creativity, and influence they leave behind for future generations,” she said
