''We have lost the Essence of our culture” – Actor Kunle Remi reacts to IShowSpeed’s Nigeria visit
Nigerian actor Kunle Remi has sparked conversation online after sharing strong views about the state of culture and public behaviour in the country, following popular American streamer IShowSpeed’s recent visit to Nigeria.
In a post reacting to videos from the content creator’s tour, Remi expressed disappointment over what he believes the trip exposed about the nation’s image and cultural values.
“After watching IShowSpeed’s journey so far, Nigeria is the worst on my own list,” he wrote, adding humour and sarcasm to his critique.
“We just really stripped Lagos naked… no be say anything dey under the clothes, before sha.”
The award-winning actor went on to lament what he described as a loss of authenticity and cultural pride, suggesting that modern social trends have overshadowed tradition and substance.
“Seems like we have lost the essence of culture… our truth,” he stated.
“All we have is fake drinks, club and beggy beggy skills.”
His comments come amid widespread reactions to IShowSpeed’s high-energy visit, which drew massive crowds and chaotic scenes in parts of Lagos.
While many fans celebrated the exposure and excitement the streamer brought, others questioned the behaviour of some youths who aggressively chased or mobbed the influencer during public appearances.
Remi’s remarks have since generated mixed reactions on social media.
The debate continues as Nigerians weigh the balance between showcasing vibrant youth culture and preserving dignity and national identity on the global stage.
