Hamamat Montia named shea butter ambassador to champion Made-in-Ghana heritage
Hamamat Montia has been officially honoured as Ghana’s Shea Butter Ambassador in recognition of her efforts to promote the country’s indigenous beauty resources and cultural heritage.
The recognition was conferred by the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, at a ceremony celebrating Montia’s role in elevating shea butter as a symbol of Ghana’s rich traditions and growing creative economy.
The event, organised under the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, brought together heads of agencies and institutions within the sector, including the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Maame Efua Houadjeto, underscoring the significance of the honour.

Montia, an entrepreneur and cultural advocate, has built a strong brand around natural shea-based products while promoting authentic northern Ghanaian traditions, helping position locally made shea butter products on both domestic and international markets.
According to the ministry, the appointment aligns with broader efforts to leverage Ghana’s cultural assets to drive tourism, empower creative entrepreneurs and create sustainable economic opportunities.

Shea butter, long regarded as a staple of Ghana’s heritage and wellness industry, continues to gain global recognition for its economic and cultural value.
The ceremony reflected a shared national vision to strengthen cultural heritage, support Made-in-Ghana enterprises and position Ghana as a leading destination for heritage, culture and sustainable enterprise.
