A wind of change blew in the Okaikoi South constituency on December 7, 2020 as constituents cast their vote to elect Dakoa Newman to represent them in parliament.

Prior to winning the parliamentary seat, as a polling station women’s organiser, she beat the then incumbent MP, Hon Ahmed Arthur in the primaries with 113 votes to pave way for her parliamentary ambition.

It is the first time in the fourth republic that a female candidate has been elected to steer the affairs of the constituency in parliament.

More interestingly, since the inception of the fourth republic, thus from 1992 to date, Dakoa Newman has produced the second-best parliamentary result as she garnered 14,374 votes more to beat her contender.

As a project management consultant who executed projects such as the Westhills and Achimota mall, terminal 3 of the Kotoka International Airport and the Ecobank head-office among others, she heads to parliament with these competencies.

Her love for serving humanity especially the needy, aged and women sets her on a high pedestal to tackle issues confronting these groups. As issues of inclusive governance makes waves globally, she is the first time Member of Parliament to keep your eyes glued to.
