9 granted GH¢500,000 bail in Adwoa Safo shooting case
Nine individuals standing trial in connection with the shooting incident that left former Dome-Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, injured have been granted bail by the court.
The accused were each granted bail in the sum of GH¢500,000 with two sureties. While the sureties are not required to justify their assets, they must complete and sign the court’s bail justification forms.
All nine defendants pleaded not guilty to a series of charges, including possession and use of offensive weapons, unlawful discharge of firearms in a public place, causing unlawful damage, and offences relating to prohibited vigilante activities.
The case stems from a shooting incident that occurred during an event linked to the Kristo Asafo Mission, which has recently been at the centre of a leadership dispute following the death of its founder, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
Among those facing prosecution are Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, brother of the injured former legislator, as well as Jehosaphat Tamaklo Safo, Kwabena Safo and Benjamin Amoakwa Sam. The remaining accused are Enock Badu, Richard Ayitey, Gideon Safo, Nana Kwaku Afriyie and Kwadwo Safo Koomsom.
Some of the accused are believed to serve as personal security personnel for Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena.
According to the prosecution, the alleged shooting occurred during activities connected to a disputed enthronement process within the Kristo Asafo Mission and resulted in injuries to Ms Adwoa Safo.
The court is expected to continue hearing the case as investigations and legal proceedings progress.
