A/R: Six killed in midnight fire outbreak at Atwima Manhyia
A family of six, including a four-month-old baby, has died in a tragic domestic fire at Atwima Manhyia in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The victims, all tenants in the same house, were reportedly sleeping in a single room when the fire broke out in the early hours of Monday, December 22, 2025.
Among the deceased are a nursing mother and her four-month-old baby, who were said to have been visiting four other relatives at the time of the incident.
According to preliminary information, the fire started around 12:30 a.m. in one of the rooms and rapidly spread to other parts of the building, trapping the occupants inside.
Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service responded promptly to distress calls and managed to bring the blaze under control.
The charred bodies of the victims were discovered after the fire was extinguished.
An eyewitness, who is also a tenant in the house, recounted the incident, describing scenes of panic as residents attempted to alert one another and call for help.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Atwima Nwabiagya South, Mr. Wisdom Osei Mensah, visited the scene to assess the situation and commiserate with affected residents.
He expressed condolences to the bereaved family and assured the community of the Assembly’s support.
Meanwhile, the Ghana National Fire Service has commenced investigations to determine the cause of the fire.
