Ablekuma West MP defends decongestion exercise, urges lawful conduct
The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Mr. Kweku Addo, has voiced concern over persistent congestion and related challenges in the constituency, amid allegations from some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) accusing him of using political influence to intimidate traders and destroy businesses during recent decongestion operations.
Responding to the claims, Mr. Addo dismissed the allegations and maintained that substantial work remains to address congestion effectively in the area.
He cautioned party faithful against exploiting the party’s position in government to engage in actions that contravene the law, warning that such behaviour could damage the reputation of both the party and the administration.
The MP emphasised that decongestion efforts undertaken by the Assembly are not politically motivated and will be carried out without regard to political affiliation.
According to him, the ultimate goal is to restore order and ensure Ablekuma West becomes a more serene and well-organised constituency in the region.
“We have been given a mandate, and we must execute it responsibly and fairly to set a high standard for development in Ablekuma West,” he stated.
Mr Addo further urged residents to comply with local regulations, advising individuals who intend to mount shop containers or other structures to secure the necessary permits to avoid confrontation with authorities.
At the same time, he called on the Assembly to prioritise stakeholder engagement and public education before undertaking demolition exercises, to ensure affected persons are adequately informed and prepared.
He concluded by assuring constituents that enforcement measures would be applied fairly and without favouritism, stressing that all defaulters would be treated equally, regardless of political or personal affiliations.
