Former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has petitioned the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Dr Dominic Ayine to review the criminal case involving the alleged shooting incident in which she was injured and transfer it from the Circuit Court to the High Court.

In the petition dated 25 June 2026, her lawyers, Marfo & Associates, argued that the Adenta Circuit Court lacks jurisdiction to hear the case because the principal offence is a first-degree felony, which is triable on indictment before the High Court.

According to the petition, Ms Safo was allegedly shot multiple times on 21 June 2026 while seated in her vehicle outside the residence of her brother, Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, one of the accused persons.

The petition states that she sustained serious injuries to the left side of her face, the back of her head, her left ear and lower jaw, with traces of bullets lodged in her skull. It also states that her Toyota Land Cruiser Prado bore visible gunshot marks.

The petition notes that the accused persons have been charged with offences including the use of an offensive weapon to commit a crime, possession of explosives, firearms and ammunition, engaging in vigilante-related activities, discharging firearms in a town and causing unlawful damage.

Ms Safo's legal team contends that the offence of intentionally and unlawfully causing harm with the use of an offensive weapon is a first-degree felony and therefore falls within the jurisdiction of the High Court. They argue that it was legally untenable for the police to arraign the accused before the Circuit Court or for that court to consider bail applications.

The petition requests the Attorney-General to call for the case docket, review the matter and have it filed before the High Court to ensure an expeditious trial.

Copies of the petition were also sent to the Deputy Attorney-General, the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Presiding Judge of the Adenta Circuit Court, the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department and the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander.
