A few dozen students from Ajumako Afransi Technical and Vocational Institute in the Central Region's Ajumako Enyan Essiam District have been hospitalised after allegedly consuming contaminated food.

Reports indicate that the students experienced severe stomach pains after eating rice and beans, commonly known as ‘waakye,’ for lunch on Tuesday, 11 June 2024.

Symptoms escalated quickly, with several students vomiting and others unable to move from their dormitory beds.

The situation prompted swift action from the school's staff, who transported the affected students to Ajumako Baah and Salvation Army Polyclinic for medical care.

Concerned parents soon converged at the hospital and school seeking updates on their children's condition.

Although most of the students have been stabilised, the specific source of the problem remains undetermined.
