Awutu Senya East MCE visits Kwanyako Water Treatment Plant to address water crisis
In an effort to address the ongoing water crisis in the Awutu Senya East Municipality (Kasoa), the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Seth Sabah Sewornoo-Banini has conducted a working visit to the Kwanyako Water Treatment Plant.
Speaking to the media after discussions with plant management, the MCE highlighted that several electoral areas, including Datus, Akweley, and Old Timers Ofaakor, have been completely cut off from the water supply.
He emphasised the need to identify the root causes of the shortages and implement effective solutions.
The MCE noted that meetings have already been held with Ghana Water officials within the municipality, and follow-ups with the main supplier, the Kwanyako Water Treatment Plant, are ongoing.
He further explained that water supply from the Winneba stretch has been disrupted due to ongoing road construction.
Regarding the Kwanyako supply, the MCE said it had previously been shut down because of turbidity in the Ayensu River, caused by illegal mining (galamsey) activities.
The plant is now operational, and authorities have assured that measures are being taken to stabilise and improve the water situation.
The visit underscores the municipality’s commitment to resolving the water shortages and ensuring consistent access to clean water for affected communities.
