Confusion and violence disrupted the National Democratic Congress (NDC) branch elections at Abura Aboadze in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese Constituency after the Branch Chairman was allegedly assaulted during a dispute over the conduct of the poll.

According to reports, the branch election had been suspended following disagreements among party members, with the Constituency Elections Committee directing that the exercise be postponed until further notice.

Despite the reported suspension, a team allegedly led by Constituency Secretary Emmanuel Idan proceeded to the venue to conduct the election.

Speaking from his hospital bed, Branch Chairman Oscar alleged that he attempted to prevent the election from taking place, citing the directive from the Constituency Elections Committee.

He claimed that his intervention led to an attack by individuals he described as suspected land guards.

According to him, he was dragged, assaulted and left unconscious before party members and residents came to his assistance.

The Branch Chairman is receiving treatment at the Abura Dunkwa District Government Hospital.

The alleged assault has been reported to the Abura Dunkwa Police, who have begun investigations.

No arrests had been made at the time of filing this report, and police say efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible.

The incident has prompted calls from party supporters for the NDC to ensure its internal electoral processes are conducted peacefully and in line with party regulations.
