E/R: Concerned Youth Network of Kwahu Abene appeals to President Mahama to sustain peace amid chieftaincy tensions
The Concerned Youth Network of Kwahu Abene in the Kwahu East District of the Eastern Region is calling on President John Dramani Mahama to intervene and help sustain peace in the community as tensions over a chieftaincy dispute continue to escalate.
According to the group, recent developments in the longstanding dispute have heightened tension in Kwahu Abene, prompting an increased security presence in the town.
The Inspector-General of Police has deployed additional officers to maintain order, a move the youth say has brought significant relief to residents.
Kwaku Kwakye, Organiser of the Concerned Youth Network, said the youth are encouraged by the police intervention but believe lasting peace will require stronger support and engagement from the government.
“We are happy the IGP has deployed more officers to protect lives and restore calm.
The youth are now able to go about their daily activities without fear,” he stated.
“But we are appealing to President Mahama to step in and help ensure that permanent peace is maintained in Kwahu Abene.”
Several young residents echoed his concerns, stressing that the restored sense of security has allowed normalcy to return. They urged traditional authorities, government agencies, and all stakeholders to continue working together to prevent further unrest.
Meanwhile, Emmanuel Osei, a leader of the Association, expressed appreciation to Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II for supporting youth development in the area.
He noted that the traditional leader recently donated five sets of jerseys and provided cash support to the Abene Methodist Basic School to boost the school’s sporting activities.
The group says it remains hopeful that with collaborative efforts, Kwahu Abene will soon return to total peace and stability.
