El-Wak stampede triggered by applicants breaching security protocols ahead of scheduled screening, says GAF
Applicants breached security protocols and rushed the gates at the El-Wak stadium ahead of the scheduled screening, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has said, explaining how an unexpected stampede occurred, claiming six lives.
Apart from the deceased potential recruits, an unspecified number of injured individuals was also confirmed in a GAF statement.
The injured were taken to the nearby 37 Military Hospital to receive treatment, according to GAF.
The armed forces' extended 2025/2026 recruitment exercise began today, Wednesday, November 12, 2025, with thousands of youth gathering to take part.
The exercise was scheduled to begin at 6:20 AM.
