Farmers Day: KoKMA MCE pushes for local consumption to boost food security
The Municipal Chief Eexcutive for Korley Klottey Municipal Assembly (KoKMA), Alfred Ato Kwamena Alottey Gaisie, has reaffirmed his commitment to environmental sustainability and food security, highlighting the need for Ghanaians to reduce dependence on imported goods.
Joining Ghanaians to mark the 41st National Farmers Day on the theme: 'Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, and Secure the Future', Mr Allotey emphasised that President John Mahama's eat what we grow, grow what we eat initiative should guide national consumption habits, urging the public to prioritise produce sourced within the country to strengthen local economies.
In the Korley Klottey area, where livestock rearing and fishing are the primary livelihoods, he noted ongoing efforts to support residents.
He explained that the newly introduced BRIC mix regulations were helping to promote responsible fishing practices, giving fisherfolk better opportunities to maximise their work.
The MCE also acknowledged the rising cost of food and outlined government interventions aimed at easing the burden on coastal fishing communities.
He further appealed to fisherfolk to recognise these support measures and work collaboratively to ensure that fish brought to market remained affordable for households across the municipality.
