Floods: Residents of Avenor appeal for help
Residents of Avenor Electoral Area in the Greater Accra Region are appealing for help following the incessant flooding in the area.
According to the residents, the road between Avenor and Neoplan station across the rail line has moved from bad to worst.
Mr David Atipoe, a resident told the host of the Ghana Yensom morning show, Otafrigya Kaayire Kwesi Appea-Apreku on Accra 100.5 FM that living in the area has become hell.
He said the incessant flooding in the area has washed away the asphalted road in the area.
The roads in the area are now fraught with man-holes in the area, he added
He cited the portion where the livestock are sold along the railway line near the office of the Electricity Company of Ghana.
He noted that the government seems to have turned a blind eye to the plight of the residents of Avenor.
But responding to the claims of the residents, Mr Alfred Asiedu Adjei, the Assemblyman for Avenor Electoral Area and Presiding Member of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly said that portion of the road all the way to Alajo junction has been asphalted three times under his administration.
He said the bitumen get washed away anytime it rains in the area leading to the road becoming bad.
He said with the assistance of the Urban Roads Department the problem has been identified and a contractor has been directed to move to site.
He noted what is key now is for all the gutters in the area to be desilted for the flood waters to move to the storm drain at Alajo.
He added that the contractor has promised to move site in the next two week
