Foreign Affairs Minister on official visit to Qatar to advance talks on trade, security and labour mobility
Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa, is in Doha, Qatar, on an official visit at the invitation of the Qatari Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani.
According to the Foreign Minister, bilateral discussions between the two countries were highly productive, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening diplomatic and economic cooperation.
Talks centred on deepening trade ties, enhancing strategic security collaboration, and working together in conflict mediation—areas both countries consider essential to achieving a peaceful and rules-based international order.
As part of efforts to promote greater movement of people and boost commercial activity, Ghana and Qatar committed to easing visa requirements.
The move is expected to support and expand existing direct flight operations between the two nations.
A major highlight of the discussions was the agreement to expedite the conclusion of a labour mobility pact that will create job opportunities for thousands of skilled young Ghanaians seeking employment in Qatar.
The proposed agreement is expected to provide a structured and safe framework for labour recruitment, benefiting both countries.
To further enhance economic ties, the two governments also agreed to jointly facilitate a Presidential Ghana–Qatar Business Forum during President John Mahama’s scheduled visit to Doha next month.
The forum will bring together business leaders, investors, and policymakers from both nations to explore investment opportunities and foster long-term commercial partnerships.
