Ghana will win the fight against galamsey at all costs – Mahmoud Kabore
'The government remains confident that Ghana will ultimately defeat illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey'', according to Mahmoud Kabore, spokesperson for the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources.
Speaking on Accra FM’s Ghana Yensom show hosted by Chief Jerry Forson, Mr Kabore stressed that the administration is fully committed to ending the menace and will not back down in the fight.
“Let me put this on record, what I am optimistic about is that at all costs Ghana will win this fight against galamsey,” he stated.
He noted that although some critics believe illegal mining cannot be stopped, the current government has demonstrated unmatched determination to tackle the problem head-on.
Mr Kabore highlighted President John Dramani Mahama’s strong stance, describing the President’s political will as unprecedented.
“We have heard some people saying we can’t fight illegal mining, but the kind of political will President John Dramani Mahama has shown and is still exhibiting as far as the fight against illegal mining is concerned is unprecedented,” he said.
He also praised the Lands Minister for showing readiness and seriousness from the beginning of his tenure.
“The kind of battle-ready posture the Minister has shown from the word go, and the sincere commitment he has attached to this fight, makes the difference,” Mr Kabore added.
According to him, the combination of firm political leadership and genuine commitment from those entrusted with the responsibility gives Ghana a real chance of defeating galamsey.
“If there is something we can use to fight the galamsey victoriously, then it is this political will and the sincere commitment of the people you leave the work for,” he emphasised.
Mr Kabore reaffirmed that the government will continue intensifying efforts to clamp down on illegal mining activities across the country to protect Ghana’s lands and water bodies.
