Gov't welcomes U.S. compliance with Ghana’s refusal to accept Abrego Garcia
The Government of Ghana has expressed satisfaction following confirmation that the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has officially acknowledged and complied with Ghana’s decision not to accept Abrego Garcia.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, the government noted that it has closely monitored developments regarding Garcia’s case and welcomed the DHS’s corrective actions.
According to the statement, U.S. authorities have formally notified Garcia’s legal representatives and amended court filings to reflect Ghana’s firm position that the country cannot serve as an option for his deportation.
“The Ghanaian Government is pleased to note that our refusal to accept Abrego Garcia has been duly acknowledged and complied with by the US Department of Homeland Security,” the statement read.
“We have also followed with satisfaction that DHS has today taken the appropriate steps to inform Garcia’s lawyers and amend court submissions to reflect the fact that Ghana cannot be an option for Garcia’s deportation.”
The statement reaffirmed the Mahama Administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the protection of Ghana’s sovereignty in all international matters.
“The Mahama Administration will continue to be transparent and truthful to Ghanaians at all times,” it concluded.
