'I'm out, I'm unbroken': Miracles Aboagye breaks silence after release from EOCO custody

Dennis Edward 'Miracles' Aboagye

New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications team member Dennis 'Miracles' Aboagye has issued his first public statement since his release from the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), where he was detained over an ongoing investigation linked to his former leadership at the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD).

Mr Aboagye was arrested at the Accra International Airport on Saturday evening and was granted GHS50 million bail on Tuesday with three sureties, two of whom must justify the bail with properties of equivalent value.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday morning, Mr Aboagye declared that his detention had not weakened his resolve.

"I AM OUT. I AM UNBROKEN. AND I AM MORE READY THAN EVER. THANK YOU PATRIOTS!" he wrote.

He explained he was detained by EOCO a day after announcing his intention to contest for the position of National Communications Director of the NPP.

"Four days ago, just one day after I declared my intention to serve our great party as National Communications Director, I was picked up and detained by EOCO," he said.

Mr Aboagye rejected reports linking him to an alleged GHS55 million scandal at IMCCoD, insisting the matter was never discussed during his interrogation.

"FOR THE RECORDS: THERE WAS NO Discussion OF ANY GH¢55million cedis with me by EOCO. None!!!" he revealed.

He also thanked party members and supporters for standing by him during his detention.

"To every party faithful who hit the streets, who raised their voices, who refused to be silent, I saw you. I heard you," he said.

Mr Aboagye said the experience had strengthened his determination to pursue the NPP communications leadership position.

"Let me be clear: if the intention was to break me, it has failed. If the intention was to scare me, it has failed spectacularly. I will lead New Patriotic Party's Communications Directorate to command the narrative, and no cell, no false story, no intimidation will change that," he declared.

EOCO is investigating alleged financial irregularities at IMCCoD. The agency has said the investigations involve former IMCCoD accountant Gerald Appiah, who it says has begun refunding part of the alleged misappropriated funds.

The investigation remains ongoing.
