The Konongo Traditional Council has performed traditional rites at an illegal mining site in an effort to halt illegal mining activities and protect the community’s natural resources.

The exercise, which was carried out at one of the affected mining locations, was aimed at invoking traditional authority and discouraging illegal miners from continuing operations in the area.

Members of the council expressed concern over the environmental destruction caused by illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, and called for greater cooperation from residents and stakeholders to safeguard the land and water bodies.

The traditional authorities warned individuals involved in illegal mining activities to stay away from the area, stressing that such practices threaten livelihoods and the long-term development of the community.
