Kumasi records second major market fire in 24 hours
Less than a day after a major fire ravaged Sofoline Magazine, the Kumasi Metropolitan area has recorded yet another fire incident, heightening anxiety over safety conditions in busy trading zones.
The most recent outbreak was reported around 10:00 p.m. on Monday at the Anwona Market, close to Afful Nkwanta. The inferno tore through several stalls, consuming goods and other valuables.
Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service responded promptly and managed to bring the flames under control, stopping the blaze from spreading to nearby buildings and properties.
While the exact origin of the fire has not yet been established, some witnesses indicated that it may have begun in a section of the market where footwear production activities take place.
No injuries or deaths have been recorded, but many traders are reported to have incurred heavy losses as merchandise and equipment were destroyed.
The Fire Service has launched investigations to establish the cause of the incident, as officials once again urge market operators and business owners to strengthen fire prevention and safety practices.
