Minister Jinapor attributes Asante Akim power outages to overstretched feeder lines
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Mr. John Abdulai Jinapor, has officially addressed the recent intermittent power outages plaguing the Asante Akim area, citing an over-extended electrical feeder as the primary cause.
Appearing before Parliament to brief the House on the situation, the Minister explained that the community is served by the Juansa feeder, which originates from the Konongo Primary substation and spans an extensive 234.5 circuit kilometres.
"The extended length [of the feeder] has resulted in low voltage conditions for customers located at the tail end of the line," Mr. Jinapor stated, clarifying why residents, particularly those farther from the substation, have been experiencing unstable power.
Providing data from April 1st to September 30th, 2025, the Minister detailed that the area experienced a total of 11 distinct outage events.
These included three unplanned outages, five planned outages, two for ECG emergency load shedding, one due to GRIDCo load shedding, and two for corrective maintenance.
In response to the persistent low-voltage issues, the Minister announced an immediate intervention.
"Voltage improvement Technology (VIT) installations have been deployed on the feeder to improve service delivery," he told Parliament.
The statement comes in direct response to growing concerns from residents and lawmakers over the return of unreliable power, often referred to locally as "dumsor," in the Asante Akim North municipality.
