The Minority Caucus in Parliament has dismissed a proposal by the Majority Leader for members to resort to an urgent question as a means of obtaining information on the evacuation of Ghanaians from South Africa.

The caucus maintains that the matter is of sufficient national significance to require a direct briefing from the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, before the House.

Speaking at a press briefing, the Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Boamah, insisted that Parliament deserves a comprehensive update on the evacuation process, given its potential implications for Ghana’s foreign relations and the welfare of citizens abroad.

He argued that the issue extends beyond routine parliamentary procedures and warrants a formal ministerial appearance to provide clarity on the circumstances surrounding the exercise and its broader diplomatic consequences.

The Minority is therefore urging the Foreign Affairs Minister to appear before Parliament and account for the government’s handling of the evacuation operation.
