Minority demands prosecution over alleged GHS10m overspending at Transport Ministry
The Minority in Parliament is calling for swift legal action against officials of the Ministry of Transport over alleged unauthorised spending of nearly GHS10 million beyond its approved 2025 budget.
According to the caucus, Parliament approved GHS83 million for the ministry’s capital expenditure, yet the ministry is reported to have exceeded this allocation by about GHS10 million an action they say violates the Public Financial Management Act.
During the debate on the ministry’s 2026 budget allocation on Deember 2, 2025, the Minority leader Alexander Afenyo Markin insisted that those responsible must face consequences. He argued that the situation warrants immediate accountability and thorough investigation.
Minority leader Alexander Afenyo Markin speaking on the floor of parliament stressed that the matter cannot be ignored, asking whether any officials had been referred to the Office of the Special Prosecutor. He warned that the breach is serious enough to lead to prosecutions.
The caucus is therefore pushing for a full probe to determine how the excess funds were spent and why the ministry operated far beyond its authorised budget.
