New doctor apathy: NSS to close registration portal Dec 5

National Service Scheme (NSS)

The National Service Scheme (NSS) has announced that its registration portal will be shut down on Friday, December 5, following what officials describe as an unacceptably low turnout of deployed personnel.

Deputy Director-General of Operations, Fuseini Donkor, disclosed in an interview on December 3, 2025, that only about half of this year’s national service cohort has completed the mandatory registration process, despite multiple reminders.

He expressed concern over the slow pace of reporting and warned that the Scheme will not extend the deadline.

“The system will go offline on Friday. It will not remain open for those who refuse to show up,” he stressed.

Mr. Donkor also condemned what he believes are intentional delays by some personnel who hope to manipulate the process. According to him, several individuals are refusing to report to their assigned regions, assuming they can later influence their placements by paying for changes.

He added that many regional NSS offices are currently underutilised because posted personnel have failed to report.

The Scheme is expected to provide additional information as the shutdown date approaches.
