Otumfuo appoints Nana Ama Bonsu as 15th Asantehemaa
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has appointed Nana Ama Bonsu as the 15th Asantehemaa of the Asante Kingdom.
She succeeds Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who died on August 7, 2025 at the age of 98.
In line with Asante customs and traditions, the newly appointed Queen is expected to choose her official stool name later on Monday.
The appointment followed customary procedures at the Manhyia Palace, where the Asantehene convened a meeting with senior traditional leaders, including the Kokofuhemaa, Kenyasehemaa, Nana Asantehemaa Kontimso ne Nkonson, the Otumfuo Gyaasehene and the Oyoko Abohyen Abusuapanin.
After the nomination was confirmed, the delegation proceeded to Nana Ama Bonsu's family residence opposite the Manhyia Palace to formally invite her.
She was then escorted on foot to the Asantehemaa's Palace amid traditional drumming, jubilation and the customary sprinkling of white powder, a symbol of victory and celebration.
At the palace, Nana Ama Bonsu was formally enstooled as the Asantehemaa. The Asantehene's Linguist, Baffour Kantankrakyi, announced her appointment in the presence of traditional leaders and elders.
Following the announcement, sub-queen mothers, traditional elders and well-wishers paid homage to the new Asantehemaa.
Some queen mothers and elders of the Asantehemaa Stool thanked the Asantehene for the appointment and pledged their loyalty and support to Nana Ama Bonsu as she assumes her new role.
