President Mahama honours senior citizens at Republic Day luncheon

President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday hosted a special luncheon at the Presidency to honour Ghana’s senior citizens as part of activities marking the nation’s 65th Republic Day celebration.
The event brought together distinguished elder statesmen and women who have contributed significantly to the country’s development across various sectors.
In his address, President Mahama paid glowing tribute to the senior citizens, acknowledging their sacrifices, wisdom, and enduring commitment to national progress.
“You have laid the foundation on which we continue to build.
Your service to Ghana is not forgotten,” the President stated.
“Today, we honour not just your past, but your continued relevance to our democratic journey and national cohesion.”
Also in attendance at the prestigious gathering were Vice President H.E. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Acting Chief Justice Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, and Chairman of the Council of State Rt. Hon. Edward Doe Adjaho.
President Mahama emphasised the government's commitment to supporting the elderly, ensuring that their welfare and dignity remain a national priority.
He also encouraged the younger generation to draw inspiration from the lives and achievements of the senior citizens.
